Enefit Green is going to complete the Purtse wind farm

Enefit Green, Eesti Energia's renewable energy subsidiary, sealed the transaction by which a wind energy developer Raunistal was acquired. By agreement of the parties, the price of the transaction is confidential. In this regard, Enefit Green will be completing Raunistal’s Purtse wind farm project in Ida-Virumaa.

Enefit Green is going to erect five wind turbines at the Purtse wind farm, which will start generating electricity in 2023. The total capacity of the wind turbines will be nearly 20 megawatts, and the wind farm is expected to produce approximately 40 gigawatt-hours of electricity per year. Such an amount of electricity could cover, for example, the annual electricity demand of Hiiumaa or Lüganuse municipality where the wind farm is located. The exact capacity of the wind farm, the amount of electricity generated and the cost of the wind farm will be determined after the procurements have been carried out.

Aavo Kärmas, CEO of Enefit Green, said that the company's strategic goal is to increase the production of renewable energy, and thus the acquisition of Raunistal fitted well into Enefit Green's plans. “Enefit Green is a growth-oriented company and the largest wind energy producer in the Baltic States. We are constantly looking for ways to produce more environmentally friendly wind energy and offer it to customers. The next step will be to announce the procurement of wind turbines, and we will continue the construction of the wind farm at the end of this year," Kärmas described.

Raivo Pihlak, the former owner of Raunistal, said that his company was interested in selling the wind farm development and he is glad that an agreement was reached precisely with Enefit Green. "I wish Enefit Green success in developing wind energy, they have an impressive company, and it is nice to see that my long-term work is now really forming into a wind farm, the output of which can cover the entire electricity need of Lüganuse municipality," Pihlak said.

Enefit Green has renewable energy projects that the company is gradually developing in all its home markets – Finland, the Baltics, and Poland.

“Enefit Green's goal is to help Estonia meet the climate goals set for 2030, and we see the greatest potential in the growth of wind energy production. To this end, we have launched several new wind farm development projects to help implement the green revolution in Estonia. Considering the trend of cleaner energy production in Europe and in the whole world, our projects have great potential and we hope to soon inform you about new positive processes in our home markets,” Aavo Kärmas said.

In 2020, Enefit Green produced a total of 1.35 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, being 13% more than in 2019.

Enefit Green has an important role in achieving Eesti Energia's strategic goal, envisaging that in 2024, 43% of the Group's energy production will come from renewable sources.

Enefit Green is a renewable energy company that belongs to the group of Eesti Energia, owning 20 wind farms in Estonia and Lithuania; four cogeneration plants in Iru, Paide, Valka and Broceni; a hydroelectric power plant in Keila-Joa; solar power plants in Estonia and Poland; and a pellet plant in Latvia. The company with its diverse portfolio is one of the largest renewable energy producers in the region as well as the largest wind energy producer in the Baltic States.

Raunistal was established for the purpose of developing wind energy and for the construction of the Purtse wind farm. The development of the wind farm has been going on for more than 10 years and the project has now reached to the construction stage. Olavi-Jüri Luik and Ants Karu, sworn advocates of the law firm LEXTAL, advised on the conduct of the transaction from Raunistal’s part.
