Rescue Teams Sharpen Skills at Iru Power Plant Drill

Last week, the Lasnamäe Rescue Team visited the Iru Power Plant to enhance their skills in operating an aerial lift truck. Over three days, they practiced maneuvering the lift boom along the building’s facade, reaching heights of up to 44 meters. The training aimed to provide hands-on experience in rescuing people from buildings of varying heights and layouts.

"This facility presents unique challenges due to its high-risk operations," said Raul Reap, Head of Work Environment and Safety at Enefit Green. "Regular drills are crucial to ensuring that responders are fully prepared for emergencies." Previous training sessions have included fire evacuations and chemical spill response, reinforcing safety in the industrial environment.

According to Roland Jefremov from the Rescue Board, these exercises are essential for mastering the correct positioning and use of lift trucks in different emergency scenarios. "We are required to practice lift truck placement at least four times a year, along with many other drills," Jefremov added.

The aerial lift used in this session can extend up to 44 meters, allowing rescue teams to operate efficiently even in high-rise structures. These exercises are part of an ongoing collaboration between the Rescue Board and Enefit Green, ensuring that first responders remain prepared for any situation.

Looking ahead, additional training sessions are scheduled for late May at the Sopi-Tootsi Hybrid Park, the largest in the Baltics, where rescuers will practice extracting victims from a wind turbine gondola.
