Estonia’s Largest Wind Park Opened in Põhja-Pärnumaa

On 10th June, the Sopi-Tootsi Green Energy Area was officially opened in Põhja-Pärnumaa, on the site of a former peat field in Tootsi. The wind park, consisting of 38 turbines, and the nearby solar park will together produce nearly 10% of Estonia’s current electricity consumption annually.

“Yes, it’s possible! Thank you to the municipality, builders, and developers. I’ve said many times that low domestic electricity production is a problem, but here on these old peat fields is proof that it can be solved. A wind and solar park that covers a tenth of Estonia’s electricity consumption is undoubtedly a major power plant that brings us closer to energy independence,” said Minister of Energy and Environment Andres Sutt.

“The completion of the Sopi-Tootsi wind park and Sopi solar park is a significant step for the entire region. The former peat deposit has gained a new, forward-looking purpose, and it brings direct benefits to our community. Renewable energy production helps make Estonia greener, while also strengthening local municipalities: it brings investment, creates jobs, and supports community development. This is a great example of how smart solutions and environmental care can go hand in hand with local well-being,” said Madis Koit, Mayor of Põhja-Pärnumaa.

“Developing renewable energy strengthens energy security, helps keep electricity prices affordable, and provides jobs for local businesses. Production happens here, investments stay here, and the benefits reach people through wind park fees paid into the municipal budget. This is a sustainable and fair model for how clean energy supports the development of the entire country,” said Juhan Aguraiuja, CEO of Enefit Green.

Enefit Green invested nearly €400 million in the construction of the Sopi-Tootsi wind and solar parks.

The Sopi-Tootsi wind park includes 38 Nordex turbines, each with a height of 241 meters and a nominal capacity of 6.7 MW, making it the largest wind park in Estonia and one of the largest in the Baltics.

The solar park spans approximately 95 hectares and includes nearly 112,000 Risen panels, each with a nominal capacity of 660 watts.

The wind turbines were supplied and installed by Nordex, and the infrastructure was built by NOBE, Verston, and Connecto. Solar park partners included Rodina Europe, Energy5, Risen, Sungrow, and Verston. Construction supervision was provided by Telora (wind park) and Infragate Eesti (solar park). Financial partners: SEB, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and European Investment Bank.

Enefit Green will host a Community Day on July 12, inviting local residents to visit and explore the Sopi-Tootsi Green Energy Area.

Enefit Green is one of the leading renewable energy producers in the Baltic Sea region and the largest wind energy producer in the Baltics. The company operates wind farms in Estonia, Lithuania, and Finland; solar parks in Estonia, Latvia, and Poland; as well as a cogeneration plant and a hydroelectric plant in Estonia.
